Usher's Stepson's Family Asks For Prayers Following Jet Ski Accident

Kile Glover, 11, remains hospitalized after suffering traumatic head injury.

<P><a href="/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>'s stepson, 11-year-old Kile Glover, remains in the hospital after suffering a traumatic head injury during a <a href="/news/articles/1689261/usher-kyle-glover-jet-ski-jeffrey-s-hubbard.jhtml">jet-ski accident</a> last weekend. Glover, the son of Usher's ex-wife Tameka Foster, was <a href="/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">pronounced brain dead</a> on Sunday, but his family has issued a statement, saying that they are keeping positive thoughts and asking for prayers.</P><P>"We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family told <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/10/showbiz/usher-stepson-injured/index.html" target="_blank">CNN</a> in a statement. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."</P><P>According to CNN, Glover's family has already held a vigil for him at the hospital, and Usher visited the 11-year-old the morning after he was admitted to the hospital. The two had reportedly grown close during the R&B singer's two-year marriage to Foster.</P><P>The accident took place on Friday (July 6) when Glover and a second victim, a 15-year-old girl, were struck by a jet-ski while floating on an inner tube in Atlanta's Lake Lanier. Both children were airlifted to the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston pediatric hospital. The girl is reported to have suffered from a cut on the head and a broken arm, while Glover took the brunt of the trauma to his head.</P><P>The man driving the jet ski has been identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a family friend. At this time the police have determined that no drugs were involved, and no charges are being pressed. On Sunday TMZ reported that Glover was declared brain dead when doctors determined that he had not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital on Friday.</P><P>Friends of Usher and his ex-wife have sent their well-wishes to the family via Twitter. "Wishing @TamekaRaymond's son godspeed recovery. horrible news to hear," Roots drummer Questlove tweeted, while Jermaine Dupri added, "Lifers! pls say a prayer for man Ryan, Tameka, Usher and the Glover family."</p>

Ask DLS: Cross-platform multiplayer games that work on Android and iOS

Here's one for our knowledgeable commenters: I recently bought my girlfriend an iPad. I, on the other hand, own an Android device. And now we're looking for games we can play using both devices.

There's no dearth of multiplayer games either for Android or for iOS. But finding multiplayer games that can cross the platform boundary is an entirely different matter.

Jay recently posted Words with Friends which is one such game. It's actually an ideal example, because it's turn-based so you don't necessarily both have to be next to your device at the same time (great for long-distance gaming).

But what other examples are there? What multiplayer games are there that let iOS users play with Android users?

IE9 and Firefox 4 post top marks in Web browser power use comparison

Over on the Internet Explorer Blog, Microsoft has posted results from an extensive comparison of the top five Web browsers. The goal: to determine whether Internet Explorer 9, Firefox 4, Chrome 10, Safari 5, or Opera 11 is able to squeeze the most life out of your laptop's battery.

A baseline was determined with test systems sitting idle, and then browsers were pointed at about:blank, a news site, the HTML5 Galactic demo, and the IE9 fish tank demo. Perhaps unsurprisingly, IE9 came out on top -- though Firefox 4 was a very close second on nearly every test. As you can see, the other browsers didn't necessarily fare quite as well, with Google Chrome, Safari, and Opera all posting significantly worse scores. In Opera 11's case, a laptop battery would last over one hour more with Internet Explorer 9 installed.

But what we'd really like to know is where did Microsoft find the dilithium crystals required to run a Galactic Total Power Consumption test...

Sony 'Xperia Tablet' details leak - Tegra 3, splashproof glass and a keyboard cover

Since the launch of the Tablet S and Tablet P last year, little has been heard from Sony on the subject of future tablet plans. However, that changes today with the leak of a massive cache of slides detailing the company's next-generation "Xperia tablet." The slides first appeared in an XDA forum post, where the poster said the tablet would come to market in time for the holidays.

The new tablet will be "positioned as part of the Xperia family," which includes Sony's range of Android smartphones. Externally, the leaked slides indicate a thinner, lighter design, while keeping the Tablet S's trademark "wedge" design and 9.4-inch screen size. Tentative specs list the thickness as 8.8mm at the bottom of the wedge, and 11.85 at the top. The device is said to weigh 570 grams, down from 598. And in contrast to the plastic chassis of Sony's earlier tablet, the new model will be constructed of anodized aluminum-magnesium alloy and splashproof glass. Screen resolution looks set to remain at 1280x800 pixels (WXGA).

Internally, the Xperia tablet will apparently sport an NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU with 16, 32 or 64GB of storage, and the camera specs have been bumped up to 1MP on the front and 8MP around the back. Battery life is estimated at 10 hours of Wifi browsing, on a 6000mAh battery. Interestingly, the OS version is marked as "ICS or later," suggesting the possibility that the Xperia tablet will ship with Jelly Bean at launch.

In addition to Android 4-point-something, you can expect the full Sony Entertainment Network suite, including PlayStation support and access to the Sony Reader store for e-books. A range of third-party apps are mentioned in the slides too, including the likes of Netflix, Hulu, Picasa, Box.net, Skype and Facebook, which may be pre-loaded.

A range of accessories is promised too, including stands, carrying cases, and a Microsoft Surface-style keyboard cover (though there's no indication of whether this works the same as Microsoft's offering). Tentative pricing starts at $449.99 for the 16GB version. 32GB is set for $549.99, and 64GB for $649.99.

With the IFA show just around the corner, and Sony confirmed to be in attendance, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for a possible unveiling in Berlin late next month. For more details, check the slides after the break.

Teen Choice Awards Belong To Justin Bieber, 'Hunger Games'

Taylor Swift and 'Vampire Diaries' also score multiple awards during Sunday's show.

<P>Justin Bieber, One Direction, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and the casts of "Twilight" and "The Hunger Games" are all proud owners of brand-new surfboards after coming away winners at Sunday's (July 22) <a href="/news/articles/1690174/teen-choice-awards-winners-list.jhtml">Teen Choice Awards</a>.</P><P>The 14th annual awards show was hosted by Demi Lovato and "Glee" star Kevin McHale and featured a host of multiple winners from across the entertainment landscape. It also saw <a href="/news/articles/1690173/justin-bieber-teen-choice-awards-performance.jhtml">performances by Bieber</a>, Carly Rae Jepsen, Flo Rida and <a href="/news/articles/1690171/no-doubt-teen-choice-awards-performance.jhtml">No Doubt, who gave their first televised performance</a> of their new single "Settle Down."</P><P>Awards were voted on by fans, who cast a total of 134 million votes, Lovato reported during the show.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Justin Bieber And Big Sean Get Down At Teen Choice Awards" id="vid:817411.id:1690172" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Bieber, who performed a medley of "Boyfriend" and "As Long as You Love Me" &#8212; the latter featuring an assist from Big Sean &#8212; was named Choice Male Artist. "For me?" he said after being handed his surfboard trophy. He proceeded to thank his fans and said he hoped <i>Believe</i> was "everything that you guys waited for. I hope you guys are playing it over and over again, and this is just a reminder to everybody in here: Believe. Thank you," he said.</P><P>Bieber's better half, Selena Gomez, was awarded Choice Music Group along with her band, Selena Gomez &amp; the Scene. Gomez accepted on behalf of her bandmates. "This is the best birthday present ever!" said Gomez, who turned 20 on Sunday. Kevin Hart then led the crowd in a sing-along of "Happy Birthday" to the star.</P><P>Swift was named Choice Female Artist and was also given Choice Single by a Female Artist ("Eyes Open"), Choice Country Song ("Sparks Fly"), Choice Female Country Artist and Choice Movie Voice (for Audrey in "Dr. Suess' The Lorax"). The five awards brought her career total to 20 Teen Choice Awards. "This is a really, really huge award, and I'm so excited and I just feel so honored that I get to have you guys in my life," she said to her fans. "I'm so happy right now, thank you so much. And thank you to Teen Choice for giving teens a chance to vote for something, because I love getting these!"</P><P>The "Twilight" saga was given the evening's Ultimate Choice award, bringing the series total to more than 40 Teen Choice Awards. Stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner accepted on the movie's behalf. Lautner called it "an extreme honor," and Pattison and Stewart gave it up to the fans, literally, by handing their surfboards over to members of the audience.</P><P>"The Hunger Games" star Josh Hutcherson was named Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and was quite proud of his new trophy. "I've always wanted to own my own surfboard, so now I have one. This is awesome!" he said. "The Hunger Games" was also named Choice Book and Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Hutcherson and co-star Jennifer Lawrence were given Choice Lip Lock honors.</P><P>One Direction were not on hand to accept their awards for Choice Summer Music Star: Group, Choice Music Breakout Group or Choice Love Song (for "What Makes You Beautiful"), but they sent in a humorous video of themselves receiving the surfboard award by mail.</P><P>"The Vampire Diaries" and its cast picked up a handful of awards, including Choice TV Show Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Choice TV Actor Sci-Fi/Fantasy (for Ian Somerholder), and Somerholder also won for Choice Hottie: Male. (Miley Cyrus, who wasn't on hand, won Choice Hottie: Female, along with Choice Fashion Icon: Female.) When accepting his Choice Hottie award, Somerholder thanked his fans and said he loves them all "each individually."</P><P>Zac Efron, a multiple winner for "The Lucky One" (he picked up Choice Movie Actor: Drama and Choice Movie Actor: Romance, while "The Lucky One" won Choice Movie: Drama), also thanked his fans, whom he called "the best fans in the world."</P><P>Jonah Hill gets credit for reaching outside the show's target demographic to poke fun at 82-year-old Oscar winner Christopher Plummer while picking up the Choice Movie: Comedy award for "21 Jump Street." "I got nominated for an Oscar earlier this year, and I lost to a guy named Christopher Plummer, who's an older, fantastic actor. And I'd just like to point out that he's not nominated for anything tonight. So I'm better."</P><P>Choice Comedian winner Ellen DeGeneres poked fun at the awards show's surfboard theme when picking up her award, her fourth. "What does [the surfboard] have to do with anything?" she asked.</P><P>But her frequent guests <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/10/12/nicki-minaj-super-bass-youtube/">Sophia Grace and Rosie</a> weren't complaining. The Brits were handed mini-surfboards for the title of Choice Web Star, and the YouTube sensations were beaming. "This is so brilliant!" said Sophia Grace. Bieber's Believe enters charts just one week after his mentor's Looking 4 Myself, as Usher tells MTV News, 'We support each other.'

The pair have <a href="/news/articles/1673032/justin-bieber-usher-christmas-song.jhtml">collaborated on songs</a> and onstage, but now they are about to have their first battle &#8212; on the charts.</P><P>Usher's album, <a href="/news/articles/1686990/usher-looking-4-myself-evolution.jhtml"><i>Looking 4 Myself</i></a>, debuted on top of the <a href="/news/articles/1687847/usher-billboard-looking-4-myself.jhtml"><i>Billboard</i> albums chart</a>, becoming his fourth #1 album after selling 128,000 copies in its first week. We try to calculate when we release so that we support each other. It's like a seesaw: 'You take it this week; I'll take it this week.' "</P><P>Usher also said that even though he and Bieber do not appear on each other's albums, he was still heavily involved in each song that made the cut on <i>Believe</i>.</P><P>"We talked about many different things when making his album. The coolest part about it is we support each other regardless if I'm on the album or he's on my album or not," Usher said. "Every album, it is that sit-down that we have to have, to go through this record. We talk about the audiences that are there: This song is for this audience member, this song is for this region. Windows 8 getting a built-in PDF reader, Metro-style

For what seems like an eternity, Download Squad readers have reacted to news of security exploits targeting Adobe Reader with a common sentiment: why doesn't Microsoft build its own secure PDF reader into Windows? Apparently the Windows 8 team agrees, and they're working away at an application called Modern Reader which is exactly that.

From the handful of screenshots Paul Thurrott has shared, it's clear that Modern Reader has been built with Metro in mind. You can see the Reader back button in the top-left corner of the yellow image and the minimal page navigation bar on the right. We've posted some larger images we managed to scrape from Google's cache after the break.

Thurrott also mentions that Modern Reader is the first program spotted which is built using AppX -- a packaging technology that may allow developers to roll a single build to both Windows 8 desktops and Windows Phone 8 mobile devices.

Nissan pins Leaf's WattStation charging woes on a software bug, works on a fix

GE and Nissan had previously ruled out GE's WattStation as the cause of a few Leaf charging failures, and that story of EV tragedy looks to be winding to a close with a more definitive explanation. As the two tell us, a bug in the Leaf's on-board charging software can damage the relevant hardware under a perfect storm of conditions: if a drivers uses a specific (but not necessarily GE) charger, an undervoltage or similar power crisis can bring the Leaf to its knees. Nissan says it's hurrying towards a remedy, although we're working to confirm just what that entails. In the meantime, the automaker is asking owners to be cautious and avoid plugging in when there's lightning or brownouts in the making.

Usher's Stepson Kile Glover Laid To Rest In Atlanta

Family and friends gathered at the Wieuca Road Baptist Church for 11-year-old's funeral service Friday (July 27).

<P>Family and friends gathered privately in Atlanta on Friday (July 27) to lay to rest young Kile Glover, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher Raymond</a>'s 11-year old stepson, who died from injuries suffered in a tragic <a href="/news/articles/1689206/ushers-stepson-declared-brain-dead-after-jet-ski-accident.jhtml">Jet Ski accident</a> earlier this month.</P><P>Glover was the son of Usher's ex-wife, Tameka Foster, and Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover. He was struck by a Jet Ski while floating in an inner tube on Atlanta's Lake Lanier on July 6.</P><P>There was no fanfare outside the Wieuca Road Baptist Church on Peachtree Road where the funeral was held, but inside, the Glover, Foster and Raymond families received tremendous amounts of support from many esteemed members of Atlanta's music and political communities. Ludacris, Jazze Pha and Phaedra Parks from "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" were just some of the celebrities in attendance. The hour-long service began at 11 a.m.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Usher's Stepson Kile Glover Is Laid To Rest" id="vid:819972" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>Young Kile was airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, where doctors subsequently pronounced him brain-dead. "We know God's in control, and are leaning on our faith in Him and His word at this most difficult time," the family told CNN in a statement. "We firmly believe in the power of prayer and ask that you all continue to pray and lift Kile up, as it's the best way we can all support him now."</P><P>Glover passed away on July 21 after being removed from <a href="/news/articles/1690157/usher-stepson-kile-glover-taken-off-life-support.jhtml">life support</a>.</P><P>Atlanta radio personality and Cash Money record artist DJ Greg Street sent out a tweet immediately after hearing the news of Glover's death, expressing his support for the family. "Lil RG is an Angel now, Ryan, Tameka, Usher &amp; the whole Glover Family we gotta make him proud," he wrote.</P><P>The man driving the Jet Ski has been identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, a friend of the family. Police have determined that no drugs were involved in the accident, and Hubbard has not been charged with a crime.
